Occupational Therapy Services

There are many reasons adults benefit from occupational therapy services including injury or surgery rehabilitation, home safety, pain management, and more. Our adult occupational therapists typically begin with an evaluation to understand you or your loved one's current levels of functioning. Following the evaluation, we will review the results and our recommendations. Together with the patient and family, we will develop a plan of care that will address all areas of need in order to maximize independence, safety, and quality of life.

Once therapy begins, our occupational therapists will regularly monitor the progress and adapt their approach and the patient's goals as needed. Ongoing patient and family education and home programs are an essential component of our occupational therapy services. In our commitment to treating the whole person through evidence-based and holistic care, our occupational therapists often partner with speech or physical therapists to deliver comprehensive and quality care.

Occupational Therapy

Elite Therapy and Wellness recommends an evaluation and occupational therapy for individuals experiencing any of the following:

  • Hand, elbow, and/or shoulder injury and surgery rehabilitation

  • Work-related activities (writing, typing, etc.)

  • Challenges with activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, toileting, cooking, etc.)

  • Arthritis or carpal tunnel

  • Safely living or moving within your home

  • Fall prevention and balance issues

  • Visual impairment

  • Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease

Therapy addresses each individual's specific needs to increase mobility, functioning, independence, safety, participation in activities, and overall quality of life. Caregivers are always welcome in our sessions and will be taught strategies to support their loved ones at home.

Memory Care

Occupational therapists evaluate individuals with dementia to determine their strengths, impairments, and functioning. An evaluation provides information on the areas requiring intervention and which compensatory and adaptive strategies are appropriate given the patient's needs. At Elite Therapy & Wellness, our team is committed to helping individuals retain existing function for as long as possible. Whether our team is providing direct care or family coaching, our services will support your loved one's safety and overall wellness.

  • Building meaningful tasks into daily routines

  • Supporting independence and overall wellness

  • Home safety assessments

  • Setting up the environment for independence

  • Fall prevention and car transfers

  • Showering, bathroom, and self-care support

  • Routine exercise plans

  • Non-defensive response techniques for difficult behavior

Home Safety

A safe and supportive environment is essential to supporting a loved one at home. Home safety plans begin with an evaluation to assess what steps can be implemented to optimize the home for safety and independence. The occupational therapist will review categories such as fall risk, self-care, cooking, driving, wandering, use of appliances, tools, sharp objects, etc.

During the same appointment as the home safety evaluation, your therapist will also provide specific steps such as:

  • Remove clutter and visual distractions so important things are easy to find

  • Arrange furniture to increase mobility

  • Install grab bars in bathrooms and showers

  • Place a clock and calendar in a highly visible place

  • Address safety concerns related to driving and firearms

Family and caregiver coaching and direct therapy are often recommended as follow-up support after the home safety evaluation.
